Here's one visitor who made it through the snow

It's been snowing all day- some guests have been unable to get to Grasmere and the Lake District.
However, we have one visitor who has arrived- but we're not that delighted.

Deer in White Moss House herb garden.
I've just taken this photo- his/her friend's back legs can be seen running off as they heard me. Deer may look pretty,( well , OK, they really do look cute)  but they can eat any green shoots in seconds.

News about availablity. Our cottage is now fully booked until the middle of April- all the last minute gaps were filled.

We do have rooms for Easter in White Moss House still available. You can email sue@whitemoss.com, or ring me on 015394 35295 . 2 night minimum stay.

We're back in the swing again...and we have special offers

We've welcomed our first guests of 2013 to White Moss House. They are a charming couple from Germany. The gentleman has been before, with his grandson, who is half English, and did all the translating last time. I can speak reasonable French and Spanish , but my German is very limted so we're having fun- sign language is being used....

The gentleman is a musician, and just loves having the baby grand piano at his disposal all the time. We love hearing him play.

They also love our Lakeland tea bread. That's why they've come back- home made tea bread by the log fire, with the piano- he said "it's a dream"!

We're offering special rates until Easter, and our cottage is still available until Easter Saturday too. Please spread the word......email sue@whitemoss.com for your best rates. The daffodils are waiting for you.

Wonderful baking aromas coming from the kitchen.

I've just taken my Lakeland Teabread and my Fruit Flapjack out of the oven, and the kitchen smells wonderful.

White Moss Lakeland Tea bread- welcome to our guests on arrival

I've make a double batch, as I'm making the cakes for Grasmere WI meeting tomorrow, and also for our bed and breakfast guests, who will be arriving from Friday onwards as we open up for a new season. We like to give our guests a welcoming pot of tea with home made cakes in front of the log fire in the Wordsworth Lounge- with our compliments. It's a great start to a lovely Lake District break.

We are offering special rates for the next two weeks, which you can see by clicking this link to our special offers page.

We also have our cottage with amazing views available for self catering from 15 to 29 March  ( leaving Saturday 30th) at very special reduced rates, whether for a week or a short break. Click here to see the cottage and find out more about the special offers

Back to the topic of Grasmere WI. We meet on the second Thursday of the month, and visitors to the Lakes who are WI members are very welcome to come to our meetings. I write and maintain the Grasmere WI website, which you can find by clicking here to take you to Grasmere WI website. Tomorrow we are having a chocolate making demo at the new chocolate shop in Grasmere, Cocoa Hearts. Should be good! I might be bringing some cakes back home if we get to taste some of the products, as we might feel that our waistlines can't take too much more.......

Walking round Rydal Water from White Moss House or Brockstone

Yesterday the weather was beautiful- again! We decided jobs could go on hold, and we set off from White Moss, up to Brockstone Holiday Cottage, overlooking Rydal Water, and then on to Rydal, where we had our favourite Carrot and Coriander soup sitting outside in the sun at Rydal Hall tearooms. We then walked around Rydal Water , past Rydal Caves, then along Lughrigg Terrace and down to Grasmere, then back to White Moss House. You can follow this walk by looking at this Guide to walking the Rydal Round. Feel free to download it. Leave me a message if you like!

We are so lucky to have this walk on our doorstep. If you would like a short break before Easter, so that you too can do this walk, we have reduced the week of 23 to 30 March in Brockstone Cottage from £820 to £620. We are also offering breaks of three nights or more from 15 to 30 March at our lovely holiday cottage which you can see here on Holiday Lettings/Trip Advisor. Please email me ( sue@whitemoss.com) with your preferred dates and I'll give you our best offer.

Here are some photos I took yesterday in the gardens of Rydal Hall. I was amazed to see so many different flowers in bloom .

Save over £100 on your Lake District break.

We're getting ready to open for 2013, which we reckon will be our 33rd year at White Moss House. Will we ever be able to tear ourselves away? We love it here!

The decorator has been painting, the carpet cleaner has been swooshing around, and we are polishing and dusting every nook and cranny ready for our first guests of the year.

White Moss House, Grasmere snowdrops
The weather has been beautiful in the Lake District for the last few weeks, and the snowdrops are out in force. The daffodils are ready to burst into bloom, and in a couple of weeks they will be fantastic.

We're offering excellent offers for B & B from 15 to 28 March, with savings over £100 for 3 night stays. These offers apply all week- no weekend supplement. We also offer 2 night specials. The AA has just awarded us their Special Award for Outstanding Breakfasts.  This reflects the top quality produce, locally sourced when possible, and the skill in preparation and presentation. Our 2013 homemade Seville orange marmalade is delicious, our locally smoked kippers and cured bacon are simply the best.Come and treat yourselves before the Easter rush.

Please note that bookings at our special rate must be made direct by email ( sue@whitemoss.com) or phone (015394 35295). They are not available for bookings through any online booking sytem.
