 Christmas really not that far ahead. Those of us who sing in choirs have already been learning the music for our Christmas concerts for several weeks. Here's one I'll be singing in with Ambleside Choral Society on Saturday 14 December 2019, and another one singing with Grasmere Glee at National Trust Allan Bank on Sunday 15 December 2019.

Why would you stay in Brockstone Grasmere Cottage at Christmas? Why would you want to visit the Lake District in winter?

More Winter Breaks at Brockstone Grasmere Cottage

At the time of writing (25 September 2019) we still have several winter weeks available at the rate of £545.

These are the weeks beginning on the following Saturdays;

9 November, 23 November, 30 November, 14 December 2019

4 January, 18 January. 25 January 2020.

We may be able to offer short breaks during these weeks. Minimum stay 3 nights., midweek from £275, weekends from £325. Please contact us directly with your preferred dates for a quote.

Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum winter programme

If you thought that the people at Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum were a stuffy old bunch of Wordsworth fanatics you couldn't be more wrong. Well, Wordsworth fanatics? Yes, probably. Stuffy? Certainly not.

The programme offers talks on a huge range of topics, family events, poetry, reading groups, and for locals, the very special Residents'Afternoon at Dove Cottage on Sunday 20 December.
With our 2 year old grandson visiting us at Half Term you might find us at "Rucksack of Rhymes" or "Tales for Tots" aimed at the under 5s. Catch them young!

Our Grasmere holiday cottage ( with amazing views) is booked for half term, but there are lots of other chances to stay there from 7 November onwards. We still have Christmas available. However, we are filling up now for some of the most popular times in 2016. September 2016 is already fully booked , so if you think that our lovely cottage Brockstone Grasmere Holiday Cottage might suit you, please don't leave it too long to book.

We're delighted that people have taken advantage of our special offers and booked our lovely cottage with amazing views through to 7 November.

We are also now booked for New Year.

We do still have Christmas available. We can be flexible about arrival dates for Christmas. The latest departure day is Monday 28 December. The best value is for a week, but we can offer a 5 or 6 night stay if that suits you better.

A beautiful September evening walk.

The weather this year has been amazing, and September has been warm and dry so far.

Tonight I walked up through White Moss Woods. Since the path was "improved" (not everyone agrees that smoothing it out was an improvement) there is a new view of Rydal Water. There used to be a tree here, and the path curled away from the wall. There's now a lovely view down Rydal Water.

Tonight at about 6pm the sun was just going down behind Loughrigg, and looking East towards Windermere, it looked like there might be some rain about. However, as Peter had gone to Windermere to play tennis, and is still not back, it seems that it didn't actually rain there. I walk on, over Loughrigg Terrace , down to Grasmere Lake shore and back along the River to White Moss. One of the many superb White Moss Walks.

You can see that the bracken is red/brown already, and the leaves are beginning to turn all sorts of oranges and reds. It will be a fabulous display this year. We still have the week from 18 October available at Brockstone , our Grasmere holiday cottage. The rate has been reduced to £650 for this week. It's a great October offer.

We're getting enquiries for Christmas and New Year now. We're offerings 4 nights minimum stay at £560, 5 nights £645, 6 nights £725 or 7 nights £790. We can be flexible about changeover days.
